Egg of a chicken louse Menacanthus stramineus fixed to a feather shaft, they are usually seen in clusters. Eggs hatch after about five days and pass through three nymphal stages. Their diet consists of the small projections found on the chickens wing, called barbs and the smaller barbules (used to lock the birds feathers together).
