Gyrinus natator called whirligig beetles. The common name results from their high speed darting across the surface of still and slow flowing water. The image shows the unusual eye. There are two parts to each eye, an upper part which allows the beetle to see above the water surface, and a lower part allowing it to see under water simultaneously.
