A horsefly belonging to the genus Tabanus. These flies are large robust flies called salt marsh greenheads in North America due to the colouration seen in the eyes. They can occur in large numbers and inflict painful bites. The larvae live and develop in damp or water logged soil preying on other soil living organisms.
