Aedes geniculatus larvae, these mosquitoes breed exclusively in tree holes, usually in beech and oak trees. In the UK tree holes provide a predator free environment for larval development. In the UK they are univoltine (one generation a year) becoming multivoltine as their range extends into Europe.
